What is a back door sale? and why is there free face painting?

It is time to do some spring cleaning, So in the spirit of a celebration more than a sale, We are having a
Spring Back Door Sale!
Sat. May 25th
11am to 3pm only
What is a back door sale you ask.. .well - it's kinda like a garage sale, but it is at our back door in the alley.  Lots of little items, great for prizes, giveaways, treats or rewards etc.  Items from 5 cents and up - as we are clearing out some items we have way too many of, or have had for too long or just the ends of stock.  We want to make room for more new inventory, less clutter etc. But to make it more of a celebration than just any old regular sale.. there will be:
  • Free Face Painting
  • Free Balloons
  • Free Tattoos including Captain Underpants Tattoos
Remember... come to the back door!
So put us on your list.. and come on out on to see what happening on The Lake Shore.

Toy Store Survey Responses

Thanks to everyone who filled out our toy store survey.
I loved hearing some of the great memories and your feedback was great.
Some of the responses really brought back memories for me too - here is one of my favourites:

Question: What was your favourite toy or toy store as a child?
Answer: Consumers distributing - i would go to the store/warehouse and look through one of their brochures that was chained to a table and pick out 'construx' (it was awesome...kinda like lego but not quite as popular)

We did choose a winner (random entry draw) and congratulations to the Huston Family!

We used many of your ideas when we did a mini reno and expanded our store area so that is easy to find toys in areas "Infant Toddler - Toys and Loots" for example. We hope you get a chance to visit and watch our youtube channel for a new toy store video soon.

Here are some of the great responses from the survey.

Question: What was your favourite toy store or toy as a child?
Answers: Many said Toys R Us for their huge variety
  • I loved my barbies because I could play with them anytime and anywhere and let my imagination go!
  • Simpson's (the christmas window display)
  • Barbie dream house. It was a beautiful 3 story doll house with an elevator. I loved to put my dolls in it and ride them to the 3rd floor..
  • The Toy Shoppe in London. Ontario. Dolls, dolls, dolls!
  • Liddicoat's in Palo Alto. They had the best Matchbook cars, and Airfix figures.
  • woolworth's on lakeshore they had toys and clothes and a little diner to get something to eat. they always had new toys out
  • There was a small locally owned store (I can't remember the name) but I loved it because there were toys out of packages so you could try them and touch and play. It's hard to be a kid in a toy store and not be able to try stuff out!
  • Loved walking down the toy aisle with my grandma at the old Woolworth's.
  • FAO Schwarz - it was big and had every toy you could imagine
  • Cabbage patch doll....loved the smell.
  • The game Trouble...that popping dice.
  • Sears - I loved lookinh through the Christmas Wish catalogue.
  • I don't think we had a toy store when I was growing up. I remember having to go to the Bay / Eatons or Woolworth for toy shopping. I just love toys, so being surrounded by them regardless of where I was made the trip fantastic.
  • Cabbage patch kid. It looked just like me! :)
  • The Sears Christmas wish catalogue as we could see all the new cool toys. We didn't go to a toy store. Also we loved getting toys from Canadian Tire as they gave us money back and we asked all our relatives for their Canadian Tire money so we could get a new toboggan or bike accessories every year.

Thanks again to everyone that responded!

What would your child pack in their Trunki

Here are just a few of the repsonses.. They are so cute I had to list some (without last names of course)
  • Name: Kahlan
    Age: 3 years 9 months
List of things: 2 baby dolls (she is probably going to beg for all of them to go on the trip, and I will give in for the 2nd one), blankets, bottles and diapers; a stuffed puppy, comfort blankie, her own make up set, a book, a colouring book, and markers. I am sure she would sneak in something else that we did not allowed, like a rock (she likes to collect rocks), and she will laugh by the time we realize she did that.

My boys are Simon (age 9) and Oliver (age 5)....currently they are OBSSESSED with legos and lego men. they like to travel with their toys so a Trunki would make the perfect carrying tool! And I know my oldest would have a hoot pulling his little brother around!!

My youngest son’s name is Alexander and he is 2 years old. If Alex was packing his trunki he would definitely need his “doggie” which is his little cuddly toy that he carries with him everywhere and must sleep with all the time; it is his most prized possession! After that he would probably pack puzzles and his doddling board which he loves to draw on.

Oldest girl 8: she would pack high heels; her build-a-bear; camera and dress
middle boy 5: he would pack his build-a-bear; coloring books; soccer ball and skateboard
youngest boy 3: he would pack paper; scissors; markers; blankie and tennis ball.

Graeme (age 3) would fill his Trunki with fishing tackle!

Aidan and he is 4 years old. Aidan would definitely pack a coloring book and markers in his trunki, along with snacks of course!

As well, his favorite thing right now is to pretend to be the Easter bunny and hide little chocolate Easter eggs for everyone to find. He would most definitely pack a basket full of Easter eggs!

Benjamin. And he is 4.I know his trunki would be filled with all cars!!!
My daughters name is Roni she is 20 months. Her trunki would be filled with dress up clothes and balls

If you haven't entered yet.. draw to be held april 15th 2011
just email me - what your child would pack in their trunki (name & age too)
    Name: Andrew
    Age: 9 years

List of things: 1st thing would be his piano books (he is very excited that we are going to visit grandma and he wants to play for her all the songs that he has learned), his iPod not to bug his sister nor us, and maybe his DS. He would try to sneak in a soccer ball, but it is kind of obvious; he always gets caught.

Win a Trunki.. if you know what it is.

Loot Lady Trying to Go Green

In many small ways I have been trying to do our part espeically by recycling as much packaging as possible. But lately we have been making extra efforts and are no longer using plastic bags in our store front. You can leave with your parcels in a nice paper bag, a reusable bag or one of our recycled boxes.

Other efforts include Green Product Options, Re Usable bags instead of Cellophane on the loots, Paper Bags instead of Cellophane and donation loot bag options.

But when I was approached by 2 Mom's with a Littlerless Lunch Bag solution.. I thought this is a product I can support.
